Bio
John Elmquist received his DMA in music composition
from the University of Memphis where he studied with
Don Freund (currently of Indiana University), and his
MM in piano performance from Virginia Commonwealth
University where he studied with Landon Bilyeu.
He is currently the Music Director at Ebenezer
Lutheran Church in Chicago (ebenezerchurch.org), and
is on the faculty of the Merit School of Music
(meritmusic.org).
Elmquist was the recipient of an Individual Artist
Grant for music composition for 2007 from the Illinois
Arts Council.
In 1999 he created HardArt groop as a vehicle for
performing his music. This ad hoc ensemble, ranging in
size from 3-20 players, currently performs 2-3 times
per year at various venues in Chicago.
